gettin ready
Sorry for the innactivity at this site folks. The myspace page has been rockin so Ive been hangin over there quite a bit more (www.myspace.com/tonyfurtadomusic).
Im starting to mentally prepare to be back on the road quite a bit with the release of the new album..."Thirteen". Ive been trying some of the new songs at some local gigs and at a few festivals Ive played, seems like people dig them! Anyway, if you have any questions or want to check out some live shows or hear some new stuff...well, soon on the last thing anyway...then go to the myspace and drop me a line, do the "friend" thing...whatever.
Finally...a tour!
YEAH!
Allright, Ive been CHOMPING at the bit to get out there with the band again so they are letting me and the guys out of the stable to hit a little corner of the NW in a few weeks. It will be a kickass trio (Damien Erskine on bass and Reinhardt Melz on drums) with Amelia White opening most shows (great singer/songwriter from Nashville).
So, just curious if anyone has any requests for the tour....my songs or cool covers.
Hope to see you there...check my tour page for the dates.

Elliott Smith
Ive been listening to a few Elliott Smith albums, and its killing me. If you havent heard his music RUN out and buy "Either Or", if you like great songwriting. Obviously one of the greatest American songwriters has slipped by us far too soon. His melodies are pure and his lyrics about as "true" and perfect as I have ever heard. I cant believe I wasnt acquainted with his music sooner. Its a good thing that now I live in Portland (where he said he was from) Im immersing myself in his songs...Ive been listenong all day and probably will learn a few of the songs. So strange how the most brilliant ones burn out so soon sometimes. tf
Myspace

Chris Whitley
Well,
Im sure most of you have heard Chris Whitley passed away a couple days ago. I only met him a couple times...he seemed a very pleasant and gracious person. Im more than positive he was more than a bit of a troubled soul underneath, as many Im sure have witnessed at some of his awe inspiring concerts or garnered from his somewhat abstract, yet telling lyrics. I witnessed several of his shows and was completely destroyed by the power and depth of his music and spirit...one monster slide guitar player, thats for certain! His singing and songwriting left me jangled and mumbling every time, a soulful voice from the deep with so much to say. If you arent familiar with his music...GET FAMILIAR! He was way too underappreciated and one of those artists who deserved so much more respect and attention WHILE HE WAS LIVING! He made an impression on me, and thousands of other fans (as witnessed by the many thousands of goodbye and thank you messages on his board as of this entry).
I hope he's resting in a better place.
Sincerely
Tony Furtado
